Approximately half of the world’s population
lives in earthen structures.
Earthen construction has been in practice since the beginning of human civilization. In fact, some of the oldest structures in existence today are made of earth. Adapting the knowledge gained from timeless building traditions, Midwest Earth Builders (MEB) produces and builds with a masonry block called an “Earth Block”. Made of a mixture of primarily clay and sand, and compressed into blocks by our hydraulic press machine, the typical block size is 7” x 14” x 4” and has a compressive strength of 700-1500 PSI (pounds per square inch).
are made using local soil resources and when possible, the
soils directly from the building site. Stabilizers such as lime
can be added to the soil mix to increase the compressive strength
and water resistance of the finished block.
Used as the sole building material for exterior and interior walls, or in addition to other building methods, earth blocks can be incorporated into most architectural designs.
Midwest Earth Builders (MEB) is dedicated to creating comfortable homes that are energy efficient, ecologically sustainable, non-toxic, beautiful, and long lasting.
